The Canadian government has made it official: Hikvision cameras and support are effectively banned in Canada. The Federal Court has dismissed Hikvision Canada’s motion to delay the government’s shutdown order, forcing the company to suspend its operations nationwide.
This decision has left many Canadian organizations asking the same question: what does this mean for my security systems?

What Happened
- On June 27, 2025, the Government of Canada issued an Order in Council directing Hikvision Canada Inc. to cease operations due to national security concerns.
- Hikvision sought a legal “stay” to keep operating during a judicial review.
- On September 23, 2025, the Federal Court dismissed the stay request, meaning Hikvision Canada must immediately wind down its business in Canada.
The company is still pursuing a judicial review, but that process will take months — and the shutdown remains in effect in the meantime.
What This Means for Existing Installations
- Your systems will keep running.
The ruling does not disable or prohibit Hikvision cameras already deployed. They will continue to function as before. - Local support is gone.
With Hikvision Canada closed, warranty processing, technical assistance, and manufacturer-backed support are no longer available domestically. Limited global support may exist, but it will be slower and less reliable. - Purchasing is risky.
While Hikvision products may still be available from non-Canadian distributors, buying them now means accepting the risks of poor warranty coverage and uncertain long-term support. - Public sector deployments must transition.
Federal government departments and Crown corporations are required to phase out Hikvision technology. Similar expectations are likely to flow to provincial, municipal, and regulated industries.
CasCom’s Guidance for Organizations
At CasCom, we’ve been tracking this development closely. Here’s our recommended path forward:
- Assess Risk Exposure
Review where Hikvision technology is currently deployed across your sites and identify systems in regulated or sensitive environments. - Communicate With Stakeholders
Expect questions from clients, boards, and insurers. Have a clear plan for how you will address the risks tied to Hikvision technology. - Plan a Transition Roadmap
Don’t wait for compliance deadlines. CasCom is already leading partner with alternative surveillance vendors that meet Canadian security standards and can provide long-term stability. - Maintain Continuity
For clients with Hikvision systems in place, CasCom will continue to deliver frontline monitoring, support, and maintenance while helping prepare for eventual migration.
The Bottom Line
The ban on Hikvision Canada is more than a political headline — it’s a real operational challenge for organizations across the country. While your existing cameras will still work, the support ecosystem has collapsed, and the regulatory environment is shifting quickly.
CasCom is committed to helping Canadian businesses and institutions navigate this transition with minimal disruption.
